Day 1: Arrival & LoDo Charm
Afternoon (Arrival & Union Station):
- Arrive in Denver, likely at Denver International Airport (DIA). The A-Line train runs directly from DIA to Denver Union Station, making it incredibly convenient for your first stop.
- Check into your hotel. Consider staying in the LoDo (Lower Downtown) or RiNo (River North Art District) areas for easy access to many attractions.
- Spend time exploring Union Station. This beautifully restored historic landmark is a hub of activity. Grab a coffee at Pigtrain Coffee Co., enjoy a craft beer at The Terminal Bar, or simply relax in the Great Hall and soak in the atmosphere. You can even do a guided tour if you're interested in its history.
- Walk across the Millennium Bridge (just outside Union Station) for great city views and a connection to Riverfront Park.
Evening (LoDo Dining & Nightlife):
- Dine in LoDo or explore the many restaurants in the surrounding blocks like The Kitchen Next Door or numerous brewpubs.
- After dinner, enjoy the vibrant LoDo nightlife at one of the many bars or breweries.
Day 2: Arts, Culture, & City Parks
Morning (Museums & Civic Center Park):
- Head towards the Golden Triangle Creative District. Visit the Denver Art Museum, known for its extensive collection of Native American art and striking architecture.
- Nearby, you can also explore the Clyfford Still Museum (dedicated to the abstract expressionist) or the History Colorado Center for a deep dive into the state's past.
- Take a stroll through Civic Center Park, Denver's only National Historic Landmark, surrounded by impressive architecture like the Colorado State Capitol.
Afternoon (RiNo Art District):
- Take a short ride or walk (about 20-30 minutes from Civic Center) to the River North Art District (RiNo). This area is famous for its incredible street art and murals. Spend time wandering the alleys and admiring the vibrant, ever-changing outdoor gallery.
- Explore the unique boutiques, galleries, and breweries in RiNo.
Evening (RiNo Food & Drink):
- Enjoy dinner at one of RiNo's popular food halls like Denver Central Market or Zeppelin Station, offering diverse culinary options.
- Cap off the night with a craft beer at one of RiNo's many acclaimed breweries, such as Odell Brewing Company RiNo Brewhouse or Great Divide Brewing Co.
-
Start your day with breakfast at Snooze, an A.M. Eatery (multiple locations, including one near Union Station), famous for its creative pancakes and Benedicts. Be prepared for a wait!
Day 3: Iconic Red Rocks & Golden Exploration
Morning (Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre):
- Rent a car for the day, or consider a rideshare/tour service for this excursion. Drive west to Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre (about a 25-30 minute drive from downtown).
- Explore this iconic natural amphitheater, known for its stunning red rock formations and incredible acoustics. Even if there isn't a concert, you can walk around, hike some of the trails, and take in the breathtaking views.
Afternoon (Golden, CO):
- Continue a short drive to the charming town of Golden, Colorado.
- Visit the Coors Brewery Tour (check availability and book in advance).
- Explore Golden's quaint downtown, perhaps walk along Clear Creek (you might even see people tubing in warmer months!), or visit the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave on Lookout Mountain for historical insights and panoramic views.
Evening (Return to Denver):
- Head back to Denver. You could opt for a more casual dinner in a different neighborhood, like the Highlands area, known for its trendy restaurants and rooftop bars offering city skyline views.
- Consider catching a Colorado Rockies baseball game at Coors Field (if in season), which is conveniently located in LoDo.
Day 4: Farewell & Last Bites
Morning (Relaxed Exploration / Last-Minute Shopping):
- Enjoy a relaxed breakfast. Maybe try a different spot in LoDo or RiNo.
- If you're interested in shopping, explore Larimer Square in LoDo, known for its Victorian architecture, unique boutiques, and string lights.
- Alternatively, visit Confluence Park, where Cherry Creek meets the South Platte River, for a walk or to watch kayakers. The flagship REI store is also right there, which is an experience in itself with its climbing wall and gear demonstrations.
Afternoon (Departure):
- Depending on your flight schedule, grab a final Denver meal.
- Head back to Union Station and take the A-Line train directly to DIA for your departure.
Tips for Your Trip To Denver
- Altitude: Denver is the "Mile High City." Drink plenty of water, limit alcohol on your first day, and take it easy with physical activity until you've acclimated.
- Transportation: Downtown Denver is very walkable. The 16th Street MallRide is a free shuttle that runs along 16th Street, connecting many downtown attractions. Light rail and buses are also available. For Red Rocks and Golden, a car or rideshare is recommended.
- Reservations: For popular restaurants or attractions (like some brewery tours or Red Rocks concerts), making reservations in advance is a good idea.
- Weather: Denver's weather can change quickly. Pack layers, even in summer, as evenings can be cool. Sunscreen and a hat are always a good idea due to the high altitude.
