There’s nothing worse than showing up to your destination with a bag full of wrinkled clothes. Discover how to fold, roll, stack, and pack any type of clothing so that you arrive at your destination with a wrinkle-free and adventure-ready wardrobe.
How to Pack Wrinkle Free
You’ve finally made it to your destination after a long travel day, and you open your suitcase to find….a pile of wrinkled clothes. Don’t feel alone—it’s a common traveler issue we all face. But wrinkles can be conquered, people! Jessica Dodson, the Travel Expert, has tested and tried theories over and over on how to pack clothes without wrinkles. So today, Eagle Creekers, whether you’re jetting off to Europe or packing for a destination wedding, we demonstrate exactly how to master packing clothes wrinkle-free.
To start, it’s easiest to classify your clothing in two categories: dressy and casual. These different types of clothes have different needs, so we’ll cover how to pack each without wrinkles.
How to Pack Dressy Clothes Wrinkle-Free
Dressy clothes are the ones in your closet that you typically hang, such as collared shirts, slacks, and dresses. You’ll almost certainly need these clothes on a business trip, but you also might need some dressier options for a night out on the town during a vacation.
So, in order to keep your dressy clothes wrinkle-free, use a Pack-It®® Reveal Garment Folder. Start by laying out your pants and dresses flat in a stack, then set them aside for later.
Then move onto collared shirts and button-downs, which need to be folded precisely. Luckily, our packing folders make folding a breeze! Inside, you will find a board that illustrates how to fold your shirts step-by-step to keep them wrinkle free—and it doubles as a tool to help you do so. Once you have accomplished the tedious task of folding each shirt, place these folded items on top of your stack of pants and dresses, then fold the pants and dresses around the shirts like a blanket. This is the secret to keeping your dressy clothes wrinkle-free because it helps avoid hard-edge creases. Then simply close up the packing folder, and you’re good to go!
How to Pack Casual Clothes Without Wrinkles
Follow the cardinal rule to pack casual clothes wrinkle-free: Roll, don’t fold. Not only does this save precious packing space, but again, when you’re packing clothes to avoid wrinkles you need to avoid those hard edges that get you into wrinkle-trouble.
The best way to keep your rolled clothes organized (and wrinkle-free!) within your suitcase is by sticking them into packing cubes. They come in different sizes—try a compression cube for jeans, sweaters, and other bulky clothes, and a small cube for t-shirts, bathing suits, and socks.. (Eagle Creek even has a packing cube for intimates!) If you don’t use packing cubes, your rolled clothes might get tossed around and end up wrinkled anyway.
Other Packing Tips to Keep Your Clothes Wrinkle-Free
-
Place a piece of tissue paper between each neatly folded item you pack. It reduces wrinkle-creating friction between your clothes.
-
We’re not suggesting you buy a whole new wardrobe, but investing in clothing made from wrinkle-free fabrics (like polyester, nylon, or lycra) is not a bad idea if you’re not a master folder or roller.
-
Pack a mini steamer! If you don’t have the space for one, you can hang your clothes in your hotel bathroom while you shower—as soon as you’re done showering, gently tug your clothes to pull any wrinkles out.
-
Pack a wrinkle-release spray in a travel-friendly size.
That’s it folks! Never again must you let those wrinkled clothes hold you back from your best looks and favorite outfits while out traveling the world. Now get traveling, and stop worrying about those wrinkles!
