Tired of waiting for your friends or partner to get out and see the world? Stop waiting. Solo women can travel safely to many top destinations on their own!

As a woman, seeing the world on your own can be an empowering experience. If you have time off work and don’t have any friends or companions available for travel at the moment, you can absolutely still book an amazing trip to any number of places that are safe for solo female travelers!

You’ll be traveling by yourself, so be sure to take some basic safety precautions no matter where you go, and keep your valuables safe in an undercover money belt or bra stash. If you’re worried about being out at night, consider doing the majority of your sightseeing during the day and having a gourmet lunch instead of a late dinner.

Not excited about visiting beautiful destinations all by yourself? If you’re interested in meeting up with other female travelers, try apps like Bumble BFF or stay in a hostel, where you’ll make plenty of friends to tour around with. You may just find yourself on a life-changing trip!

Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo, Japan was recently rated the world’s safest city for the third year in a row. Female travelers will have no issues taking the subway train alone or sightseeing on their own in this interesting destination. Plus, Tokyo is full of ramen restaurants that cater to solo diners, where you can slurp your noodles in your own private booth without anyone bothering you! Don’t like dining alone? You can also enjoy plenty of street food at your leisure. You can also easily take the bullet train just like the locals to other cities like Kyoto and Osaka to round out the trip. Pack a comfortable, women’s fit backpack so you can travel seamlessly between cities.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Any Scandinavian cities would be safe places for a female traveling alone, but Copenhagen should top your list for a few reasons. It is a relatively small city, so it will be accessible and easy to get around by bike or foot. Pack your daypack and see some of the top-rated sites like Kronborg Castle, The Little Mermaid statue, and Tivoli Gardens amusement park. Also worth mentioning: Some of the top restaurants in the world are located here. Try to score a reservation by offering to sit at the bar and you’ll make all your friends at home jealous.

Sydney, Australia

Warm and friendly Australians will welcome solo female travelers with open arms! The backpacker culture is alive and well down under, so consider staying at a hostel to meet other fellow solo travelers. You can head out together to see highlights like the Opera House with your new friends, and they can help take your photo with a Koala at the Koala Park Sanctuary. Or, book some local experiences so you can tour around with experts who know the city well! Sydney is a bit of a trek from the United States, so you may want to take a longer trip or combine it with a stopover in New Zealand. You may even be able to fit two weeks of clothing in a carry-on when you’re packing for Australia, which makes you more nimble as you backpack solo to a few destinations in the region.

Vancouver, Canada

Don’t want to travel too far, but still looking to visit a new country on your own? Head up north to Canada. You’ll find plenty of natural beauty to explore around Vancouver if you rent a car and see the Suspension Bridge, Vancouver Island, and Whistler. Or, just stay in the city and enjoy some of the hot spots like Yaletown, Stanley Park, and Granville Island market. Don’t miss a dim sum brunch or lunch. Although Vancouver is considered safe, take normal precautions at night and avoid desolate areas.

New York City

Not in the mood to go on an international trip by yourself? Book a long weekend in New York City instead. In addition to amazing museums, shopping, and sights where you can take your time exploring on your own, traveling solo means you’re also more likely to get into notoriously difficult restaurants where getting a reservation is usually impossible—just offer to sit at the bar instead. You can also score a solo seat to some of Broadway’s top shows. When the pace of the city becomes too much, book yourself a yoga class, massage, or spa appointment for a bit of bliss in the Big Apple.
