Packing Tips for the Savvy Traveler

There are two things every human wants. No, not whiter teeth and Oprah tickets. Those rank three and four. Every human wants to be smarter and to save time. While we won't be much help in breaking down the finer points of quantum physics or drawing up actuarial tables of compounded interest (whatever that means), we can help you raise your travel IQ and become a smarter, faster packer.

As any Dad who's meticulously packed a car trunk for a family vacation can tell you, it's not what you pack, but how you pack it. Bags, like car trunks, have a finite amount of space. The great secret is organizing that space like a puzzle, each piece fitting perfectly into the next. The Pack-It® System is designed with just that in mind.

Our Pack-It® Folder 18 allows you to take more of your best clothes without turning them into your most wrinkled clothes. Start by using the included folding board (with easy-to-use instructions) to get your garments folded flat and wrinkle-free, then stack them in the folder. It's best to put the heavier items like pants, jackets and skirts on the bottom. Then layer your dress shirts on top. Remember to alternate the collars, facing them in opposite directions. This will keep the folder balanced. Place the folding board back on top and secure with the Velcro straps. When you get to your destination, you won't have to rifle through your bag looking for the things you need to hang in the closet. You can even color coordinate - a blue folder for him and a yellow for her.

Another great packing tool is the Pack-It® 2-Sided Cube. It has breathable mesh on one side and a spill proof mesh liner on the other. Fill one side with rolled up socks and underwear. As you wear them, place them on the other side of the cube. This way you'll know exactly where the dirty clothes are. You can color coordinate these as well - maybe a red one for t-shirts and a green one for work out gear. You may want to consider bringing an extra empty one along to fill with souvenirs. And because they're mesh, cubes are also great for getting through security checkpoints fast.

While traveling is a welcome respite from the daily routine, most people don't want to give up their daily grooming routine. That great kiwi scented shampoo. The lavender lotion. The nail files and the shaving brush and the electric Scooby Doo toothbrush (that is your kid's-right?). If you have a Pack-It® Wallaby II toiletry kit, you can easily fit all your favorite essentials inside and even hang it on a bathroom hook. It has elastic organizer pockets, stain and water repellent linings, removable sacs and a detachable mirror.

One great thing to remember is you don't need to bring the jumbo bottle of conditioner you bought at the salon or the industrial size tub of hand cream. Eagle Creek has the perfect Pack-It® Travel Bottle Set which includes (2) 4oz. bottles, (2) 2oz. bottles and (2) pillboxes. Fill them with just what you need for your journey. You'll save space and weight, two essential elements of smart packing.
