This is a great travel pack. It was just the right size for what I wanted. I spent 2 months in Peru, Bolivia and Chile and the pack was easy to carry and easy to put into the rainfly when it was carried on top of buses, in trucks, etc. I carried the day pack everywhere and while it was on the small side, I was still able to carry a full size camera, guide book, rain jacket and other small items pretty easily. The full pack (with daypack attached) was also comfortable to hike in, but perhaps not as much as a true backwoods/camping pack. I did a four day hike with this and it worked great. My only real complaints with the pack are that the rainfly is much to flimsy to really withstand much travel use. It tore after only two uses (bus travel). It was easily repaired with duct tape though and ulitmately survived the 2 months. Also, you need to be a bit careful with the strap clips. They are a bit flimsy and bend easily. I felt as if they would break, but they never did. Overall, I would give the back an good rating for a travel pack.

This is a great bag. Positive: Solidly build, good zippers, robust, smart straps, holds a lot (which is also a problem). Negative: Please make the plastic clips (that connect the waist belt) more robust. When the pack is fully loaded and I am trying to put the waist belt with the full weight of the bag fighting against me, the plastic clasps bend---they haven't broken yet, but they seem like they might. Also, the bag is a bit heavy, even when empty. Again its large size encourages me to put too much in that, combined with the weight of the bag, makes it quite heavy.

Overall a nice, well thought out bag.

My girlfriend and I each purchased an Explorer pack for our 7-month round-the-world trip and these bags were perfect for our travels. Combined with cubes, everything stayed organized and they protected our stuff through 13 countries.

Based on magazine reviews, we almost got the Switchback which is a similar size bag but with wheels. We're SO HAPPY we went without wheels. We were very mobile, rode buses, boats, animals and planes and stayed in budget hotels and guesthouses. It's very rare you find a nice surface to roll your bag a long and in exchange you give up precious storage space and carry several extra pounds every day.

This compact-ish pack kept us from bringing the kitchen sink like many people we met and we were much happier for not carrying all of that crap (plus we could carry on!)

My day pack was stolen in Costa Rica from a bus unfortunately along with my laptop, ipod and passport so I'll be looking to replace it but I hope the Explorer pack stays with me for a long time!

My family and I just returned from a 5 month backpacking trip to Africa, the middle east and Europe, and your equipment was used throughout the trip. I just want to let you know that your packs are well thought out and are the best we have seen and used!! On many occasions the packs were exposed to very harsh use and the trip through Africa stretched all our equipment to the limit. From Lake Victoria to Kilimanjaro, from Zanzibar to the Nubian Desert, from Alexandria to Goreme and beyond, non of your packs failed at any time and I would recommend your equipment to all travellers. Our next trip is already being planned and Eagle Creek will be there with us.
