Eagle Creek Service Day with the San Dieguito River Park
In April 2015, we had a BLAST volunteering with the San Dieguito River Park's Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead. When we first arrived, we were able to tour the homestead to learn about the history of the site (which is a State Point of Historic Interest). It was very interesting to learn what life was like for the pioneers who settled in San Diego shortly after its statehood, and we had a lot of fun interacting with common home furnishings and appliances families utilized at the turn of the 20th century.
After that education, we got busy staining fences, clearing/weeding orchards and beautifying the site for the local farmer's market they host every weekend.
All in all the day was a complete joy! We love getting outside and making a difference in our local community. How do you enjoy getting involved locally?
