Eagle Creek Switchback™ Max 22
Consumer Reviews
Matthew Carney   -  Nashville, TN, United States

If your looking for a complete bag that does it all from work, play to everything in-between look no further. This will hold up to a 17" oversized laptop in the sleeve. The backpack is great for the office & traveling while the luggage part holds 3-5 days of luggage pending your packing style. Both the backpack and wheels are essential. Carry the Switchback Max on your back or roll it down the street. I travel for sales and it took some time to find something that met all the requirements. This is the perfect solution for my daily travel needs helping me eliminate bag fee's at the airport. Need more storage? Step up to the Switchback Max 25 and get an extra day or two of storage with the same backpack options.

I love the Eagle Creek brand and the service behind each product. I recently bought and additional bag to replace my old Continental One that I have used for over 20 years: It's the Switchback 22". It does everything it promises to do, but it has some lines that takes getting used to. The main compartment holds the internal structures for the handle bars, so it takes up quite a bit of space. I suggest using the three tube cubes to fit right in between these bars to utilize the space better.
The additional bag has a nice capacity and is easily detachable.
This bag has handles everywhere and lots of straps that can get in the way
Overall, a great bag with awesome versatility.

Tips: Use the regular cubes and tube cubes for maximum use of space. It organizes all your stuff very quickly.
After a lot of research, I got a great price at Oregon Mountain Community website with free shipping.

I purchased my 22 in. switchback (roller bag with zip-off backpack) back in 1996. I have used it constantly all over the world, and it is still my favorite piece of luggage. As we speak I have it in my room here in Hwambo, Angola. I recommended it to a friend who works for World Bank and she used hers constantly for many years. When my roller wheel broke after more than 10 years, I sent it to Eagle Creek and had it back in perfect condition within two weeks. I can't say enough good things about Eagle Creek's thoughtful design and durability. I have become an Eagle Creek groupie! Martha Denney

The luggage is of course awesome, but what made me write the review was the quick and easy warranty. We traveled the world with these bags for 4+ years, and they held up great. A spring wore out in one of the handles and a wheel got scrapped up and it made a clicking noise on hard surfaces. I took the parts off, sent them in and within 10 days had brand new replacement parts that worked perfectly! Now we are ready for more adventures with them!

Absolutely love this bag. Perfect size, perfect for international carry-on (main bag overhead, detachable dayback under seat). Bag is actually pretty comfortable as a backpack as well. Only gripe: the side pockets on the daypack are not expandable/elastic and too small to fit most water bottles.

This bag has gone everywhere, from an overnight stay (where many an outfit change was required - shoes are the death of any packing light intentions) to a three-week trip to Europe or Asia. Just returned from a one week trip to Spain and decided to take another piece of luggage. That was a total mistake. With every flight of stairs and every necessary taxi trip just to get the suitcase to the train station or airport, I longed for the ease and versatility of my switchback 22. You don't know what you're missing till you have to do without, and this latest trip without has made me realize that the switchback 22 isn't just a superior piece of luggage, it's a superior piece of travel sanity. I did have another Eagle Creek product with me on this trip to Spain (the ORV Take 2) but its largess made things difficult for navigating. I will say it held up extremely well for all of the abuse it took and being able to zip off the gear bag allowed me to store this in the overhead luggage areas on trains, rather than the end of the aisle and out of sight. Amazing bag - just much more bag than i needed for this particular journey. I much prefer the versatility of the smaller Switchback 22. Another note on quality: since I have rarely had to check the 22 (I think twice
out of two dozen or so airline trips) it is in fantastic shape. The ORV Take 2 looked like it had been dragged on asphalt, tarred and feathered, after just the one trip. I wiped off all the debris and dirt, and aside from some scratches, it's good as new. I will never buy any other luggage than Eagle Creek!

This bag is great, it has been across the U.S. with me and to Africa and Europe 3 times. It still looks brand new and I can pack enough clothes for 2 weeks using the Pack It System. I love it, I will be buying a lot more of your gear in the future.

How many words do I get?

My first Eagle Creek was this model, but I bought it at the Gold Mine without the zip apart backpack. I took it to China with me in '06 where we banged around Yunnan, guest house to guest house dragging along dirt, gravel and cobblestone streets for a couple of months. It had a
broken bottom, probably why it ended up in the second hand store. Later that year, visiting my daughter in San Marcos, I took my bag down to the factory thinking maybe I could get another backpack, no luck there, but the lifetime warranty covered the bag whether I'd got it at the Gold Mine used or REI new. They fixed it and it was the perfect travel companion, I just used a different back pack that didn't zip on and off.

Last year for another trip to China I bought a new system giving my older one to a very classy lady who says she uses it. I have lugged this new one from Sichuan to Thailand on the ground, attached or not, in the air, on little boats across the Mighty Mekong and on gravel roads that one doesn't even want to admit walking on let alone abusing a bag by dragging it across. It is not the bag of choice for the Lonely Planet Guide backpacker traveler who insists on piling everything deeply on top of everything else heavily loaded down with the big pack on his/her back and the smaller one on the front looking and undoubtedly feeling like a beast of burden, but when we both arrive at the small #2 bus station for local travelers looking for even more off the beaten path local color, I'm the one who comfortably rolls across the parking area to the little bus where likely as not i"m the only foreigner and my bag goes into the bin at the rear or underneath where it will be smothered by who knows what all. At the destination, I'm the one who yanks it out and rolls on off without a wrestling match to get it all over my shoulder. And, although I haven't used the backpack feature of the main bag, it is comforting to know that it is there for when I must turn into a Lonely Planet Guide backpacker traveler with everything on my back and nothing rolling. I love the Golf Mine and even more now that it has turned me on to Eagle Creek. There is no finer way to travel for me. Thanks.

I'm a retired Deputy Sheriff who has tested and used virtually every type of gear bag and similar product on the market. Quite simply, the others just don't hold up like Eagle Creek products. In 1999 I purchased four Switchback systems plus a carry-on for each member of my family, and they're still going strong. Our Eagle Creek luggage has taken too many cross country trips to count, has been pulled across cobblestone streets in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, the Arctic Circle, and everywhere in between. All without a single problem, and we never had to check a bag due to the design of the products. In August 2010 I head back to London and my Eagle Creek Switchback will be going with me, again. The durability, quality and customer service are second to none. I highly recommend Eagle Creek to anyone wishing to simplify their travel needs.
Karen   -  Los Angeles, CA, United States

I bought this pack in 2000 and still have it. I remember debating about it because it was more expensive than other bags and I didn't have much money at the time. But boy, I owe that salesman a hug because this bag has been awesome. Other than being a little dirty from travels, it is in perfect condition. Its been to Peru, India, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and more. It has been convenient in some situations to be able to use it as a backpack like on the back of a motorbike! But it also looks perfectly stylish and is expandable. I cannot say more good things about Eagle Creek and their products. This company is awesome. I have absolutely no regrets.
Fred   -  Collingwood, ON, Canada

My wife and I have used two of these bags for two month long trips to Europe in the past 12 months. They are very functional and durable. Every time I think that they are full, I can squeeze in another purchase. My only negative is that the pen, passport part of the day pack is inaccessible when the daypack is zipped to the main bag. As a result, we tended to not use the two bags zipped together.

I had found the perfect travel duals, the Take 2 ORV Trunk 28 and the Switchback Max 22 carry on luggage. I had been traveling into Asia for business and Vacation at Central America for many years, I had purchased many other brands of luggage, and none of them can compare the Eagle Creek brand luggage for durability and guarantee coverage. My previous luggage had never lasted more than three trips of airline abuse, and the manufacture had rejected the warranty claim for non-manufacture failure- damaged cause by airline carriers. Five year ago, I had purchased an Eagle Creek ORV Trunk 30, because my old luggage had split apart in Miami International airport. I am still using the ORV Trunk, some sign of wear and tear and a small hole had punch through the backing material, but still working perfectly. Recently, my wife and I took a cruise to Mexico on the west coast. The Take 2 ORV Trunk 28 provided the storage for our clothing on the upper compartment and the sport gear and shoes were pack in the lower compartment. We both use the latest Eagle Creek product the “Complete Pack-it Organizer which I used to pack my underwear, socks, 2 change of clothing, with room to spare for other things. This little unit can pack into my carry on luggage, the Switchback Max 22, with room still available for a light jacket, accessories, and the detached-able daypack for my computer, camera, travel documents and other items. I am very please with the performance of the luggage. Most recently, my wife used the Complete Pack-it Organizer for a 3-day weekend trip and was able to pack all her clothing for the weekend in this compact unit. I love when she packs light! Definitely the Eagle Creek brands beats it all the competition in design, portability and durability.

For many years my Switchback 22 traveled throughout the U.S. and Great Britain. It was my faithful companion. Then, unfortunately, it became ill and some of its screws fell out. Its wheels also became cracked and some chunks fell out. I emailed Eagle Creek, carefully packed my trusty companion and sent it to the Eagle Creek Hospital. Alas, while it was there, the gravity of the illness increased. I received an email stating that it could not be returned to its original condition; so, it would be replaced by a brand new bag! I was asked to go to the website and select the bag and color that most closely resembled the original one. I found the Switchback Max 22 to be the one the came closest. \"Lo and Behold\" today, a brand new happy Switchback Max 22 was delivered. It\'s perfect and much more than I expected. I just can\'t believe it! Eagle Creek, you are fantastic! You honored your warranty with no questions asked. WOW! THANKS!

When I went shopping for new luggage this was a little more than I wanted to pay but this bag seemed to be just what I wanted so I bit the bullet and bought it.

I am so happy I did, what a great piece of luggage this is; Light durable and very well thought out. I LOVE the detachable backpack feature, it came in so handy as I was tooling around the UK. There's not one feature missing! And how can you go wrong with an unconditional repair guarantee? I expect that this bag will be traveling with me for years to come and an item that seemed, at first a tad on the pricey side is actually money very well spent!

PROS: (I have an earlier version)
-ultimate durability (12 years old and still like new)
-lifetime no questions asked warranty & customer service (I had wheels and zippers replaced all for free, they even cover shipping)
-backpack option
-zipper quality
-organization & pockets
-did I mention ULTIMATE DURABILITY yet?

CONS:
-initial cost (but so worth it!)
(that's all for cons)

The day I got my Switchback 22" back in the 1990's, I was hooked on Eagle Creek products. Before Eagle Creek, I had a generic backpack that had a zippered main pack, a daypack and a fanny pack, but no wheels. I had used that for 5 years traveling in the US, Mexico and Canada. I liked the fact that I had a day pack or something smaller to hump around during excursions and that I can zip up together when traveling between major waypoints. But it was always a big deal to lug all that on your back. I'm no weakling, but it can take a toll on you. Enter the Switchback. It was great to be able to wheel my luggage around and have the convenience of the daypack. I chose the smaller 22" at the time for the ease of being able to wheel it onto a plane and stash it in the overhead. It's much smaller in width than the current model and the daypack is very much smaller than the current model's daypack. I enjoy using this product when I know there are no concrete roadways to roll my luggage. I've had my 22" Switchback for over 15 years and have had no problems with it. Although the daypack is much smaller and has almost no pocket storage, I am able to carry my laptop and gps. I don't believe I will do to the current model. I've sized my model and the current model sided by side and have found that the current model's dimensions are too big for me. Although, I can stuff the same amount of clothing in the current model, the width is wider making it harder to wheel in the aisle of a plane; even more challenging in a small puddle jumper. The daypack is much bigger and has pockets for water bottles, but for me it's just too big. It's almost the same size as the main pack. To me, it would be carrying two large pieces of luggage on my person and that is one pack too much. Zippering it together and carrying it, I believe would cause alot of annoyed travelers as you inadvertently bang into people and things. I personally carry my daypack in front of me on my chest. The smaller pack makes it manageable and it allows the more things to be within reach. I have recently started using my Camelbak Rim Runner for a daypack instead of the Eagle Creek and found it more usable. Although I will not be able to zip them up; that is minor inconvenience when you think of the personal space, when you are wearing the main and day packs, take up.

I travel quite a bit and the convenience of mobility to get from one transient point to another is importance as well as manageable space. Go back to the older style, but make the daypack a little bigger with more pocket storage and I might come into the new millennium. Until then I'll be stuck in the 90's.

I spent 6 weeks in Europe with this suitcase. it was a dream!! I also used the recommended packing cubes and folders. I have and will continue to recommend this suitcase, and all Eagle Creek products to my friends, acquaintances, and family.

Even though the airlines tossed my luggage around, everything stayed intact, and there are only a few scratches on the plastic portions. Truly a great invention!!!

I've been throughout Asia for the past 20 months with only my EC Switchback 22. It's tough, roomy and intelligent. My favorite companion for sure.
Joyce Mcdonough   -  Rochester, NY, United States

I've owned a version of this piece of luggage for 12 years, and it has traveled ALL over the place, I travel a lot - Europe, Asia, Northern Canada, cities and backcountry. It has been left out on runways, dragged across blocks and blocks of cobblestones, carried around by porters in Nepal, schlepped everywhere. I've carried it on my back, wheeled it behind me. I use the detachable backpack all the time. It is by far and away THE best piece of luggage I have every owned. It's a traveler's luggage.

I'd love to take advantage of their lifetime guarantee but it is still in excellent condition.

Got this as a replacement for my much loved Journey Woman backback, which got me around the world twice in comfort and style. I LOVE this new combo pack as it is great to have the option of rolling or backpack. Only thing I wish it had is a place to stash a map or guide book in the daypack (back pocket) AND it would be great if you attach the daypack to the front of the backpack for 3 way carry. In any case, this pack rocks!
Patty   -  Tampa, FL, United States

I bought the Switchback 22 about 3 yrs ago and since then it the main bag I use for all my trips, I’m able to carry a weeks worth of clothes, shoes, toiletries and also bring all my electronics: laptop, 2 cameras, tripods, and so much more

It was well worth the money. The only thing I have not used yet is the backpack part on the main bag, but it there just in case I ever need it.

Now that I will be traveling for a month or more at a time, I need to buy a bigger bag so I am looking in to another Eagle Creek.

Jacques Voorhees   -  Keystone, CO, United States

I bought this suitcase/daypack combo in 2002, after 7 years of using the old "Continental Journey" backpack carryon. Yeah, I sold out to the "wheeled crowd." I travel frequently on business (about twice a month) and take half a dozen overseas trips a year. I work hard and (when possible) play hard. The Switchback 22 is expensive, but was one of the best investments I've ever made. If I pack carefully, I can fit two suits into it, plus everything I need for casual wear. The suits are from TravelSmith and they don't wrinkle. The detachable daypack I use as a business briefcase. So, for example, I was able to attend business meetings in Bangkok for a week, and then spent three days on Phi Phi island helping the villagers rebuild after the tsumani. The Switchback rolled around Bangkok's airport nicely, and through the lobby of the business hotels. When I got to Phi Phi, there was nothing but chaos, and the ability to deploy the backpack feature meant I could navigate through and around the heaps of garbage and debris. My Switchback has now been on six continents, plus an offshore sailing passage from the U.S. to Venezuela. One of these days I'm going to buy a new one, but the original still looks brand new so it may be awhile. I'm glad to see Eagle Creek is still making Switchbacks. I hope they never phase this line out.
Bobbi   -  Lakeside, CA, United States

Love it. I like the detachable daypack and also like that it can be put on as a backpack. It is a great size for carry-on luggage also.
David Orange   -  Bronx, NY, United States

I own the In-Flight Companion and the Switchback Max 22 Convertible Pack. The Switchback is a very reliable, sturdy and versatile piece of luggage. I have used the Switchback primarily on extended weekend trips. Combined with the Eagle Creek travel system (18 inch folder, pack-it caddy, assorted cubes), I can pack everything I need for a four-day trip. When I combine the Switchback with my In-Flight Companion, I can pack for an entire week. The In-Flight Companion has all kinds of bells and whistles. Best of all, the Switchback and In-Flight Companion are carry-ons that can fit in a jet’s overhead bin. All told, I am extremely satisfied with my high-quality Eagle Creek products.
Carol Rayes   -  Cardiff by the Sea, CA, United States

My Switchback suitcase HAS traveled around the world. I only wish I took pictures of it in each place. I am a flight attendant and it is my luggage of choice. It has been repaired a couple of times. Just recently the plastic frame near the handle was cracked. I am thrilled that it was able to be repaired.
Richard Reedy   -  Portland, OR, United States

We just returned from a hiking trip in Ecuador and our Switchbacks were perfect for the trip. We had to travel light, and the Switchbacks kept us down to 30 pounds each. On day hikes, we were able to use the day packs to good use. It was also nice not having luggage that looked like all others.
Chantal Tu   -  Sacramento, CA, United States

I LOVE this piece of luggage so much that my friends may have thought it was a little unhealthy. But it was so useful! It has wheels (perfect for the long walk between the airport and hostel) AND can be carried as a backpack (perfect for the many stairs in Greece). It's a little bulky when used as a backpack, but maybe it's because I'm small. I've used it for 2 international trips so far and it's held up well.
kandace   -  clermont, FL, United States

My husband and I both use this piece of luggage regularly. He is a pilot and finds it great for a stay for a few nights. It rolls well and we really like the fact that you can unzip the backpack and use it alone or together. Only wish we had 1 more.
Dan A Klein Jr.   -  Lincoln, NE, United States

Absolutely love the Switchback 22. Definitely works for a carry-on with a small zip off day pack. Quality construction for durable use. Easy roller, easy conversion to backpack carry, a pleasure to use.
Dean Murray   -  Laconia, NH, United States

This bag has taken me all over the US, Canada & Germany. I get comments from fellow passengers at almost every airport during layovers. The bag attracts the attention of other travelers as they often recognize the quality and functionality of this gear. I also use the day pack on short day trips close to home. Without a doubt one of the best purchases I've ever made.
leonora uribe   -  sunrise, FL, United States

Until recently I worked as a road warrior for Sandals Resorts, traveling throughout the Caribbean; with each trip I am always reminded of a TV commercial with "Don't Leave Home Without IT" the same is true of the Switchback® Max 22. The ease of travel, the amount of room for packing, the versatility and durability does not compare to anything on the market. I will never use anything else!
linda Dourte   -  fullerton, CA, United States

This bag is the best! I have taken my grandsons (ages 6 and 11) to England and Scotland for a 2 week trip with just this bag and a school backpack for each boy. The trip was great, not having to lug around tons of bags was liberating. I had an easier time keeping up with two active young men.
We also have traveled to Cambodia for a week with just our switchback max 22. Great bag, looks cool, too!
Richard Mori   -  Sammamish, WA, United States

I use my 22" Switchback for business trips, and it’s perfect! It qualifies as carry on so I don't spend time in the check in line, pay additional luggage costs, or risk lost luggage. It’s big enough to carry everything I need for a 4 (or more) day trip, and I don’t have to take my PC backpack.
I pack my laptop, work files, and the rest of my work related stuff in the detachable daypack. I keep the daypack attached when on the shuttle and going thru security at the airport. Once on the plane, I detach it and store it under the seat in front so I have access to my all my work stuff without having to hop up and down to get anything from the main part of my Switchback, stored in the overhead luggage compartment. When leaving the plane, I reattach the daypack, and make my way to the hotel with only one bag to handle. I take the detachable daypack into the office, while the rest of the Switchback remains in the hotel room. I keep everything together so I never leave anything behind. I love it!
david Sleipness   -  la Mesa, CA, United States

This luggage has been to 26 countries and still going strong! Sent in once for free handle repair and came back fully refurbished. WOW>The best feature is the sturdy backpack straps. Really helpful when walking down Seattle's icy streets after a winter storm, jumping off a bonca boat on White Beach in the Philippines, or navigating the Paris subway turnstiles with a cheese sandwich in my hands. It has been abused by countless baggage handles at airports, bus terminals, train stations, ferry piers. The cargo switchback has survived falls from the back of jeepneys, took-tooks, a motorcycle, pedi-cab crash, off the back of an elephant, and into the drink on Bohol Island. It just keeps on keepin on!
Phebe Schwartz   -  St. Thomas, VI, United States

I've had my Switchback for about 12 years, and love it. We've travelled at least twice a year, and my Switchback has held up well, despite being dragged through four continents. This little piece of luggage holds everything I need for a month in Costa Rica, a summer in Europe, an archaeology dig in Israel, or a short trip to a family occasion.

It rolls like normal luggage, but then has shoulder straps to turn into a large pack - excellent when your room turns out to be on the top floor of the B&B. But the Switchback also looks urban enough to roll through the streets of Manhattan.

I love it! Best piece of luggage I've ever invested it. AND it always fits on an airplane, so I rarely have to check luggage - another big plus for this bag.
Randy Gradle   -  Dallas, TX, United States

We used the backpack as carry on luggage for our two week trip to Germany and surrounding area. Maxing carry on size was the goal as we made the trip with NO checkin luggage. Having a breakaway day pack just makes it so easy to carry a day's supplies out sightseeing and photographing. The pack is easy to load and comfortable to carry when rolling is not convenient.
Gail Lewis   -  new york, NY, United States

I’ve traveled with my 22” switchback for the past 12 years and I couldn’t be happier. As a NYC urbanite my bag is narrow enough to roll through the subway turnstiles and easily plops onto my back so I can hike it up my 4 flights of apartment stairs. When I head out of the city for weekend trips I remove the front pack and my bag fits either under my train seat or above on the luggage rack. In addition I have used my bag as a carry on during domestic flights and I have taken it to Italy for a 12 day vacation. In Italy the switch back was a lifesaver especially in Venice with all the stairs up and down the bridges. The ability to quickly switch between a rolling bag and a backpack is amazing! My wheels have begun to disintegrate from all the use so I’m sending my bag in for a tune up. I hope we are not separated too long.
Jessica Reid   -  Langley, BC, Canada

I used an Eagle Creek bag on a month-long trip around Ireland and the UK last spring and it made traveling a breeze! The sturdy rolling wheels were a lifesaver, even on hilly cobblestone streets in Edinburgh, and it was easy to pack and re-pack at each hostel stop. It was crammed full by the time I headed home, and everything made it back safely, including the Irish whiskey! I borrowed the bag from a friend who had previously used it backpacking around Europe herself for almost a year, and now I am planning to go work in Ireland, and will be looking for an EC bag of my own.
Gail Van Velzer   -  Alta Loma, CA, United States

My husband and I have traveled all over the world, to Europe, China and South America. We have had our Switchbacks' for about 10 years. This is the only luggage we take on extended trips...all carry-on. When we got to Europe, my husband's boss said "Let's go get your luggage". We remarked this was it. We were staying a month and had only our Switchbacks and the boss was staying a week and had 3 times what the two of us had! Learn to pack light, learn to pack right, and you'll have everything you need. Over the years, we've lost a buckle and one strap broke, but other than that, it's been great. We haven't used the backpack feature much, but I'm glad to know it's there if we have to. The only change I'd make, is to add a ring or two to clip things like glasses to the outside of the small pack, or even another front pocket above the existing one, but I've been happy with every Eagle Creek product I've ever purchased.
S Bear Bergman   -  Burlington, ON, Canada

I seriously have no idea how anyone leaves the house without Eagle Creek luggage, and the Switchback 22 is my total go-to. It has been a pillow on the night train from Krakow to Prague and been pampered as though it were a child by hotel staff in Morocco; it has ridden public transit from the mountain busses of Costa Rica to the Manhattan subway and it still looks practically new. Bonus - in a pinch, I can sit comfortably on it (and since I weigh 275, that's serious load bearing). I constantly recommend this and my other EC products to everyone else I know who travels a lot for work and for fun. I balked at the price at first, but then I remembered what it took to deal with even a medium luggage failure disaster and I ponied up with good cheer. Have not regretted a penny.
Sandy Giltinan   -  Irvine, CA, United States

Wow , from sunny southern California to a snowy/rainy WV , my four year old daughter and I managed a week long visit including a few select stuffed animals and the holiday outfits in a swithback 22 and a latitude navigator. Carry on all the way ! After last years trip and an extended visit at the Atlanta airport due the now normal airline delays I vowed to figure out how to do this carry on and leave us maximum flexibility for doing the next available flight shuffle. Didn't need to this trip but felt liberated by more efficient baggage setup.LOved the part where the skeptical and terse flight attendant eyed my swithback and asked "does that need to be checked"......zzzziiipppppppppp! Voila , "No ,it's a carry on and this(the backpack full of stuffed animals, curious George books, my little ponies and some mighty bites) is her personal item! YES ! The quality is great,I've used a ton of different "bags" and packs in my former life as a ski guide and this one rocks ! Could easily trade out my daughters toys for my toys and blast off for a play date with some blower POW ! Great stuff , Sandy

Best wheeled luggage I've ever owned? MEGA-CHECK!

I have had this thing for 5 years and other than a bit of dust and a scrape or two where they should be, its in perfect shape. I've toyed with the idea of sending it back to Eagle Creek for a new one, what with their No Matter What guarantee, but how could I??
Maybe one day it will turn to dust, but until then I will be rolling and hauling this baby everywhere I go. Thanks Eagle Creek!

The best. I travelled with a similar product before made by Swiss and it was not even close to be as easy and fun like this one. I went to Panama and Egypt with the bag..it's perfect. I use a special pillow to sleep, it fit easily in the bag with all the other things I needed. I will now bring this bag everywhere I go. The straps are great, the bag is very comfortable...it's PERFECT!!! I recommended for everyone....oups I forgot: the best feature: the wheels and the day pack...so great in museum, on sidewalks, etc....The best bag ever!

I've had this luggage for about five years now and it still looks new. I've had the luxury of travelling around the world with this bag, and most recently last week I took this bag with me on vacation. My boyfriend was so impressed with the detachable day bag, that I've begun exploring buying him one. While packing to return from vacation, he placed a bet with me that I would be unable to fit everything into my bag, I proved him wrong. This bag my appear small, but it holds enough for a ten day trip to Europe!

I travel for a living, covering all of the Americas (North, South and Central) along with the Caribbean Islands. Most of the place I go are off the beaten path.
Last year I was on the road for about 85 to 90% of the time. When I first started traveling 5 years ago I would just buy cheaper lugage, which would last me 1 or 2 months (if I was lucky). Finally about 2 years ago I finally got smart and purchased my Eagle Creek ORV Super Truck and Switch back. The thing that sold me was the NO MATTER WHAT damage repair policy. After dragging my bags all over Brazil, Argintina, Trinadad, Mexico, Canada and just about every state in the union it was looking like I was never going to need the damage repair policy.
However between South America buses and airlines all over the Americas they finally took managed to damage my Super Trunk (but it took them 19 months v.s. 1 or 2 months).
I contacted Eagle Creek explained what type of bag I had and that it was damaged, they didn't ask how or anything. They just gave me the information need to send the bag in, 1 1/2 weeks later I received a replacement.
Traveling the way I do, I can easily say that my Eagle Creek bags are the best investment I've made in the last 2 years.
THANKS for such a great product!!

I loved this product!
It was my life saver all thru out India!! I was on a 17 day trip and it fit just about every thing!

I thanked Eagle Creek EVERY DAY I was out there.
I would suggest this piece because it fits all the regulations of flying.

For dashing through Denver or Atlanta airports, or driving cross-country to see the new granddaughter, this is the best way to go! Everything fits in the overheard or under the seat, the daypack allows the "essentials" to be easily accessible. Mine has survived longer than any other suitcase I've ever owned!

I absolutely love the luggage. It expands to what I need yet isn't too heavy to lug around. The removable backpack is a blessing too. Holds a lot yet easy to carry. Now I have to buy one for my boyfriend because he saw the benefits of it!

I took a job working in Iraq and my first reaction was to buy Eagle Creek luggage for the intensive travel I would be experiencing. I picked up the Load Warrior as my primary moving unit (taking personal belongings for living overseas). The Switchback was my R&R bag of choice so I always had an option to not check baggage but had something on wheels for long walks at the airport. This luggage has not failed me and looks like new after several trips through Frankfurt, Dubai, Gatwick, and several US airports. However neither bag was working for me when I had to take helicopter rides in the middle of the night for work in outlying areas. The ORV Gear bag was the perfect fit. I needed something I could carry across fields to heli pads (backstraps), was stiff enough to pack semi-organized (dividers are great) but act like a duffle for throwing on top of the passengers laps (no wheels and stiff back), big enough to carry personal needs for several days and needed work gear and laptop, but small enough to put in my lap on the chopper. The abuse it gets: thrown out of choppers, walked on, slept on, swung by any of the numerous holding points, etc. I am thrilled with all of my EC products, but this new addition will probably end up as a favorite. The hardest part will be deciding which bag to use for my 3 week trip to Costa Rica:-)
Thanks Eagle Creek!!

I bought 2 of these bags, one for myself and on for my wife. They were the perfect size to lug around...and fit on a plane when needed. The removal daypack was used everyday to carry our essentials (including camera, passprts, etc) while we bounced around like a typlical tourist on our travels in Africa and London for our recent honeymoon. We debated whether or not to spend the money on "good" luggage or just continue to use the same old stuff we've always used, and I can tell you it was worth every penny. Very glad we purchased the Switchbacks. We'll use it everywhere we go now. The lifetime warranty was also a key selling feature.

I had my older version of the Switchback 22 (sorry cant even remember what it was called since it has been so long ) for over 10 years. As a business traveler I traveled every week and it stood by me without any problems, no zipper problems not even wheel problems.
Unfortunately the airline played "drag the bag through the tarmac" with my suitcase and after 11 years of faithful service I have to retire it (although after that trauma the major damage is a hole). With a heavy heart I am letting go and looking forward to my new Eagle Creek Suitcase. (Although I may still send the old one to see if it can be repaired...it is that good). If you want a good quality long lasting product look no further.

Hello, we've just arrived home in the UK after a year circumnavigating the globe with our three small children. I wanted to write and say that we have tried and tested 2 of your Switchback ES Max and an ORV trunk through 29 countries, 5 continents and 60,000 miles (try that with a 4 year old!) They are fantastic, we would recommend them to anyone - and frequently do. Check out the great picture of us and our gear on Moscow train station, which made it into today's Times newspaper in the UK (along with most other UK newspapers). Keep up the good work Eagle Creek.
All the best

I was stuck. I was alone, save our toddler, and stuck with a car seat, two carry on's, two checked bags, a stroller, and in a foreign airport. Okay, so it wasn't really 'foreign', it was just Salt Lake City, but it was certainly foreign to me and I could NOT get the (so-called) Smarte Cart our of the rack. There was no way I could possibly get all this stuff from baggage claim to the taxi stand in one trip. I would have to shuttle it all, leaving, at some point, some pieces of luggage unattended. Then I remembered my Switchback's backpack straps. I quickly whipped 'em out, donned the Switchback like a backpack, loaded up the stroller with our toddler, loaded up the other rolling bag with the carry-on's and was able to move out to the taxi stand - ferrying it all in one trip. If it hadn't been for the versatile Switchback, I could have been hosed. I've now taken this bag to Brazil, Iceland, Maine, and on numerous family trips. It's so versatile and dependable that I've been able to use the backpack for day hikes, not worried about checking glass and other delicate gifts when packed in the hard-sided main compartment, and even used it for the toughest duty of them all: organizing diapers, wipes, toys, outfits, night-night books, and more for our toddler. Overall, a superior bag, whether you're headed to Iceland or just stuck in the Salt Lake City airport.

I am an Eagle Creek person, period! One day a week is dedicated to urban adventure in San Diego. I ride the Coaster to the downtown area, hop on a trolley to Mexico, take a ferry to Coronado, a bus to Balboa Park...etc...I explore..... I am literally on my feet all day, hours at a time. I experimented with many packs before choosing the "Boundary." The weight rests on my hips, and my shoulders do not ache, either that day or the days after. My back is ventilated all day resulting in my comfort. I own 3 Boundaries, and fill them with cubes of various sizes.
Looped through the belt of my pack is an Eagle Creek wallet. I keep a credit card, cash, and train tickets in front, for ease and accessibility. This system of "wallet in the front," at waist level, allows me to keep the pack on all day.
I am a female baby boomer in my late fifties. With this system, I don't come home crippled after each trip. It is in fact, this system, that allows me to be as active as I am on a continuing basis.
During the rest of the week, I load my laptop and camera equipment, plus padded cubes with MP3 and tape recorder, into my Switchback 22. I wheel it discretely, into restaurants in North San Diego County, and do my work from this system, drinking tea, gazing at the ocean, watching pelicans soaring overhead, having all of my equipment at my fingertips.
If I need to photograph something, I load my camera gear into my Eagle Creek Camera bag, and head outdoors.
Everything is light...and looks good!
I lift all, easily, into my car. We boomers at middle age, love and appreciate your products.
I carry something of Eagle Creek with me at all times. Even my purse is organized with cubes. And for serious adventure, well, I have the women's Explorer.
I value your products, have seriously tested them on myself, and I am touched by your integrity to your customers.
Lastly, I grew up in New York, (the city), and am part of a manufactoring/designing family. I have had access to a wealth of products since childhood, a universe of products. I have chosen Eagle Creek for myself, and this is the best endorsement that I can offer you. Thank you for positively affecting my life..

I love the Switchback Max ES22! I've taken over 6 trips with it and have found it durable, convenient, and lightweight. I've also learned to pack better as a result. I'm a Buddhist priest--the Pack It Folder works perfectly to keep my robes neat and well protected. Between the Switchback and packing solutions items, I've become a lean, mean, traveler. I also use the guide bag 24-7 now, there's no substitute for the roominess and ease of use! Thanks for making my life easier!

Just wanted to let you know that the bag has been working out super well. Have put over 100k miles into it already and going well. Whether pulling my 5 year old daughter, perched on it like the Queen of Sheba facing backwards through the airport, going to a race, schlepping water bottles course-side for VIPs or doing a 2-week trip around the world with only one bag, it has lived up to its reputation. Fantastic.

On the plane to Paris as I write this; the bag will likely see some time bumping around the cobblestones of the famous Paris Roubaix bike race this weekend. I sing its praises and hold out Eagle Creek as a paragon of how customer service done right can make a customer for life. My boss, Gerard Vroomen, bought one based on my recommendation of your company and product. Others, too numerous to mention, have done the same. Thanks again.

Why is this your favorite product?
It's a very versatile bag for overseas travel because of it's multiple carrying configurations. I think it has about 936 configurations.

Why is this your favorite product?
22 means no waiting for the baggage carousel. I love packing light so I can get off a plane and out of the airport with ease. I put my luggage piece in the overhead and the zip off pack under the seat; this gives me easy access to my own treats, personal stuff and music.
